Maddog 20 oz Aluminum CO2 Paintball Tank Bottle

Reliable CO2 power for classic mechanical paintball markers.

The Maddog 20 oz CO2 Paintball Tank is a field-ready aluminum air tank built for players using CO2-compatible paintball markers. Affordable, dependable, and easy to fill at many paintball fields and sporting goods locations, the 20 oz CO2 tank remains one of the most popular air systems for recreational paintball, woodsball, rental fleets, and backyard play.

With a larger 20 oz capacity, this tank provides more shots per fill than smaller CO2 bottles, making it a smart choice for players who want longer game time between fills. It is an excellent match for classic mechanical markers like the Tippmann Cronus, Tippmann 98 Custom, Tippmann A-5, Tippmann Stormer, JT Stealth, Spyder-style markers, and other CO2-compatible paintball guns.

Affordable Power • Long-Lasting Capacity • Built for Paintball

Why Choose a 20 oz CO2 Tank?

CO2 has powered paintball markers for decades because it is simple, affordable, and widely used. A 20 oz CO2 tank is one of the best options for players who want a larger-capacity bottle without stepping up to an HPA compressed air system.

  • Great for recreational paintball and woodsball
  • More shots per fill than smaller CO2 tanks
  • Affordable air system option
  • Commonly used with classic mechanical paintball markers
  • Easy to refill at many paintball fields and fill stations
  • Perfect for starter packages, rental setups, and casual play

Approximate Shots Per Fill

A full 20 oz CO2 tank typically provides approximately 800–1,100 shots per fill, depending on the marker, weather, firing rate, temperature, and overall air efficiency.

  • Efficient mechanical markers: usually closer to the higher end
  • Cold weather: may reduce consistency and shot count
  • Rapid firing: may lower usable performance between fills
  • Marker setup: air efficiency varies by model

For most recreational players, a 20 oz CO2 tank provides plenty of air for multiple games before needing a refill.

Compatible Paintball Markers

The Maddog 20 oz CO2 Tank is designed for paintball markers that are compatible with CO2. It is commonly used with many popular mechanical paintball guns, including:

  • Tippmann Cronus Basic
  • Tippmann Cronus Tactical
  • Tippmann 98 Custom
  • Tippmann A-5
  • Tippmann Stormer Basic
  • Tippmann Stormer Tactical
  • Tippmann Stormer Elite
  • JT Stealth
  • Spyder-style mechanical markers
  • Azodin mechanical markers
  • Many classic recreational paintball markers

Important: Not every paintball marker is CO2-compatible. Many modern electronic markers require HPA compressed air only. Always check your marker manual before using CO2.

CO2 vs HPA: Which Tank Do You Need?

CO2 and HPA both power paintball markers, but they are not the same. Choosing the right air system depends on your marker and how you play.

CO2 Tank Affordable, widely used, and ideal for many classic mechanical paintball markers. Great for recreational play, woodsball, and starter setups.
HPA Tank More consistent air output and required for most modern electronic markers. Better choice for tournament markers, speedball, and high-performance setups.

If you are using a Tippmann Cronus, 98 Custom, A-5, Stormer, JT Stealth, or similar mechanical marker, CO2 is usually a budget-friendly option. If you are using an electronic marker such as an Empire Mini GS, DYE CZR, Planet Eclipse marker, or similar tournament-style gun, choose HPA instead.

Important Tank Shipping Notice

ALL paintball CO₂ tanks ship EMPTY to comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) safety regulations and must be filled before use.

CO₂ tanks require liquid carbon dioxide and must be filled using proper CO₂ fill equipment. They cannot be filled with compressed air or HPA, and should only be filled by trained personnel using approved CO₂ filling equipment.

Find Local CO₂ Tank Filling Services 🗺️

One of the biggest advantages of CO₂ is how widely available it is. Many players can have their tanks filled locally before heading to the field.

Most players fill CO₂ tanks at:

  • Paintball fields
  • Local paintball stores
  • Sporting goods stores
  • Welding gas suppliers
  • Beverage & CO₂ gas distributors
  • Some sporting goods and outdoor retailers

How to Read Your Tank Hydro Date

Every CO₂ paintball tank includes a stamped manufacture or hydrostatic test date on the tank. This is commonly referred to as the hydro date.

Example: 03 ★ 25 = Manufactured or hydro tested in March 2025.

  • Aluminum CO₂ tanks typically require hydro testing every 5 years
  • The stamped date is not the expiration date
  • Tanks that are out of hydro may not be filled until they have been re-certified
  • Always inspect your tank before each use

Fresh hydro dates are guaranteed on all new Maddog CO₂ tanks. Expect tank dates within approximately one year of manufacture.

Complete Your Paintball Air Setup

Need to Carry Your Tank on Your Back?

Pair your 20 oz CO₂ tank with a remote coil line and a 4+1 or 6+1 harness system to move the tank off your marker. Many woodsball and scenario players prefer this setup because it improves balance and reduces fatigue during longer games.

  • Moves tank weight off your marker
  • Improves balance and comfort
  • Ideal for scenario and woodsball play
  • Works with most standard remote coil systems
  • Compatible with Maddog 4+1 and 6+1 harnesses

Recommended Pairings

  • Tippmann Cronus Paintball Markers: Reliable mechanical markers that work well with CO2.
  • Tippmann Stormer Series: Great recreational and woodsball markers for CO2 setups.
  • Gravity Feed Loader: Simple, battery-free loader for mechanical markers.
  • Paintball Mask: Required eye and face protection for gameplay.
  • Harness & Pods: Carry extra paint and stay in the game longer.
  • Tank Cover: Add grip and help protect your tank from scratches.

Maddog Pro Tip

CO2 is a great choice for many classic mechanical paintball markers, but it is not the right choice for every marker. If you are using a modern electronic marker, choose an HPA compressed air tank instead. If you are using a Tippmann Cronus, 98 Custom, Stormer, JT Stealth, or similar mechanical marker, a 20 oz CO2 tank is one of the best-value air systems available.
