HK Army Aluminum Tank Size Guide

Not sure which HPA tank size is right for your setup? Here’s a quick breakdown of how the 13ci, 26ci, and 48ci systems compare in size, feel, and intended use.
| Tank | Approx Length | Approx Weight | Best Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 13ci / 3000 PSI | Approx. 9.75" | Approx. 15.9 oz | Pistols, pump, magfed, stock-style builds |
| 26ci / 3000 PSI | Approx. 11.5" | Approx. 1 lb 10.9 oz | Compact tactical and lightweight setups |
| 48ci / 3000 PSI | Approx. 11" | Approx. 2 lb 15.5 oz | Most beginner and recreational paintball setups |
Quick Recommendation: If this is your first HPA tank, go with the 48ci / 3000 PSI. If you want the lightest and most compact setup possible, choose the 13ci. The 26ci is the sweet spot for players wanting a compact setup with more usable air capacity.
Tank sizing and weight comparison shown in manufacturer reference guide. Actual dimensions may vary slightly.
Not sure which size to choose? Most new players should start with the 48ci / 3000 PSI. Choose 13ci or 26ci if you specifically want a smaller, more compact build.

Reliable HPA Performance
Compressed air, also called HPA, is the preferred air source for many paintball players because it provides more consistent pressure than CO2 across changing temperatures and rates of fire.
- Works with most mechanical paintball markers
- Required or strongly recommended for most electronic paintball markers
- Refillable at paintball fields and air fill stations
- More consistent than CO2 for modern paintball setups
Estimated Shots Per Fill
Actual shot count depends on your marker efficiency, firing mode, temperature, regulator settings, and fill quality, but here are general estimates for most paintball setups:
-
13ci / 3000 PSI – Approx. 180–300 shots
Compact capacity ideal for pistols, pump markers, magfed, and lightweight tactical builds -
26ci / 3000 PSI – Approx. 350–550 shots
Balanced compact setup with more usable air capacity for scenario and magfed play -
48ci / 3000 PSI – Approx. 600–900 shots
The most practical all-around option for recreational and beginner paintball setups
Pro Tip: If this is your first HPA tank and you are not specifically building a compact magfed or pistol setup, the 48ci / 3000 PSI is usually the best starting point.
Shot count estimates will vary depending on marker type, weather conditions, firing mode, regulator tuning, and air fill quality.
Important Tank Shipping Notice
All paintball tanks ship EMPTY to comply with DOT and carrier safety rules. Your tank must be filled before use at a paintball field, air station, or qualified compressed air fill location.
Do not attempt to fill this tank with a standard home air compressor. Paintball HPA tanks require high-pressure compressed air fill equipment rated for paintball air systems.
Find Local HPA Tank Filling Services 🗺️
In compliance with U.S. transportation regulations, ALL paintball tanks ship empty and must be filled before use.
Most players fill compressed air tanks at:
- Paintball fields
- Local paintball stores
- Sporting goods stores
- SCUBA and air service shops
Need help finding a fill station?
Use our HPA Fill Finder to locate nearby compressed air fill options before game day.
Always call ahead to confirm HPA pressure limits (3000 PSI / 4500 PSI) and fill availability.
How to Read Your Tank Hydro Date
Every paintball HPA tank includes a stamped manufacture or hydrostatic test date on the tank bottle. This date is commonly called the “hydro date.”
- Example: 03 ◇ 25 = Manufactured or tested in March 2025
- Aluminum HPA tanks typically require hydro testing every 5 years
- The stamped date is NOT the expiration date
Tanks that are out of hydro may not be filled by paintball fields or fill stations until they are re-tested.
Fresh hydro dates are guaranteed on all new Maddog HPA tanks. Expect tank dates within up to 1 year of their manufactured date.

- Helps reduce front-heavy marker feel
- Improves comfort for woodsball and scenario play
- Works well with 4+1 and 6+1 harness systems
Maddog Pro Tip

What output pressure do these tanks use?
HK Army aluminum HPA tanks use a standard high-pressure regulator output of approximately 800 PSI.
Which size should I choose?
Choose 48ci for most beginner and recreational setups. Choose 26ci for a compact tactical or magfed setup. Choose 13ci for the smallest lightweight builds, pump markers, pistols, or stock-style play.
Will these tanks work with most paintball guns?
Yes. These tanks use standard paintball ASA threading and are compatible with most paintball markers designed to run on compressed air.
